About
The idea
SPOTech Lab is an IT knowledge base, a free and independent technical wiki. It offers three kinds of pages:
- guides, which sum up a concept or a set of commands on a single page;
- tutorials, which walk through a complete procedure step by step;
- tools, such as the IP address calculator, which run directly in the browser.
The content is organised into thirteen topics: Windows, macOS, Linux, networking, virtualization and containers, storage and NAS, homelab, security, backup, hardware, software, artificial intelligence and IT services. The base keeps growing over time.
Who is it for?
For everyone: curious people who want to understand their computer, enthusiasts who like to get their hands dirty, and professionals looking for a clear procedure. Each page shows its level:
- Beginner: no jargon, the essentials to understand and stay safe.
- Intermediate: you are comfortable with advanced settings or a terminal.
- Advanced: detailed configurations and command-line tools.
How the content is prepared
- Some topics are part of the author's daily work and are tried on his own machines. Others are more theoretical: chosen out of interest and written from official documentation and various sources, they have not necessarily been put into practice. For those, refer to the cited sources and try things on a test machine before going to production.
- Information is checked against the official documentation of vendors and projects, or failing that against specialised sources, listed at the bottom of each page.
- Pages are reviewed and updated when software changes; the update date is shown.
- Commands are meant to be read and understood before being copied, especially on an important machine.
The English version
The site is written in French. This English section offers translations of a growing selection of pages, with the same structure: topics, guides, tutorials and tools. A translated page shows a Version française link, and the FR / EN button at the top of every page switches language. Links to pages not yet translated lead to the French version and are marked (FR): your browser's built-in translation works on them, and commands and code are protected so they stay exact.
Transparency about the use of AI
Some of the content on this site was written or polished with the help of artificial intelligence, and AI also helps with the translations. Each page is then reviewed, checked and approved by the author before publication, and the sources used are listed at the bottom of the page.
